Colonel rimfire 0
Firstly i'd like to say a big hello to all on this forum infact i came across the forum as i saw a very similar question to the one im about to ask. i'd greatly apriciate any advice before i go ahead and ask my f.e.o i presently have a target shooting certificate for two .22lr rimfires and a .223,i shoot at various target shooting competitions, and the running deer with the british sporting rifle club. my ticket is coming up for its second renewal and i was thinking of asking my feo to take a look at a 6 acre field that i have permission to shoot air rifle on. i have been shooting air rifle (12ftlbs)on around 6 acres of land for a few years now,and it seems that the rabbits have worked out the range of my airgun to the point that they cheeckily scamper just out of range each time i try to get close.taunting me with their white tails! i think its about time to teach them a lesson as they seem to be breeding like rabbits do,and im not having much success, with the old .177 springer.much to the annoyance of the landowner i consider myself a novice hunter, and ideally would like to take on bigger game at some stage in the future, but i have no experience with bigger animals. ive seen muntjack and other deer in the field, however i would think its completely out of the question to get permission for that at this stage, also i wouldnt know where to start with a dead deer carcas!but aside from that. i was under the impression that 6 acres would be far to small for shotgun or rimfire, but just out of interest would it be worth my while to apply for a variation on my f.a.c for permission to shoot rimfire/shotgun on this 6 acre feild? the land is flanked by a railway track on one side and a dual carrageway on the other, and is on a slight hill, with a house at the top where my friend who owns the land lives.i am pretty aware of angles and ricochets, but no expert i do posses a modicom of common snse and we always shoot our airguns away from the road, rails and property. i was considering getting or building a high chair/seat and placing it in a tree would this help? my question is would this satisfy my f.e.o as the land has never been cleared for rimfire/shotgun to my knowledge.rimfire being my preference any feedback or advice would be greatly aprieciated as im kind of new to hunting many thanks Jann
The one 8,598
Hello and welcome mate .it all depends on the land ,safe backstops etc
walshie 2,804
Hello and welcome. Sounds a bit small for rimfire, but land does'nt have to be cleared for a shotgun. You can shoot them anywhere you have permission (obviously has to be safe though)
