Craig Fosse 286
hi guys there has recently been alot of topics on hold over and under and also a great video from si(zini) on youtube. I have recently just changed my scope to a nikko mountmaster. Although its a budget scope i have been amazingly impressed. Anyways i went out yesturday and did some shooting on my permission, Basically i made a wooden taget 20cm by 20cm with some pigeon and rabbit targets on and started to do some shooting. As its a new scope i started learning all the hold under/over for the mill dot scope. I wrote them down on a sticky note starting at 10 yards all the way back to 45. As i have only been shooting air rifles for just over a year now i dont tend to shoot at anything more than 45 yards away so thats how far i went back. I wrote down the different places for hold over etc. and noted down exactly where i am to aim at all the different ranges. Alot of experienced people will tell you this is the best way to do it and i must agree. On my new permission i have just gained there is a rabbit run at the bottom of a slope that declines just over 45 degrees. I also took my targets here and worked out the paricular hold over/under. Last night i sat down, got a mill dot reticle that mimics the nikko sterling off the internet and with the help of publisher i made up a quick look referance guide for the field, its now taped to the cheek of my rifle, some people put them in scope lenses but i am without these so this was my best way. Before i used to do it all off memory but i must admit i prefer doing it this way as its a sure fire count and will lead to alot less miss factor. i though i would share this with you and if anyone else can benefit from it then please use it i know alot of the old hats do this already butfor the newer guys i thought it might be something of benefit. below are some pictures of my doings, the rabbit is the targets i used, i think all in all i put through a tin of pellets yesturday getting back into shooting again as i have just moved back to jersey where i was born with my wife after leaving the marines. hope its of some use craig p.s i use an aa s200 .177 Quote Link to post
Mawders 595
Cracking accuracy there mate, its definately worth doing to map your pellet flight. What rifle are you using? Quote Link to post
AR177 588
What Magnification are you using mate? ATB Adam Quote Link to post
Craig Fosse 286
Cheers mate thanks, it took a good tin of pellets to start getting back into it I must admit. I felt good after tho! I use an air arms s200 which I absolutely love. I'm not the biggest guy around and I tend to walk a lot on my permission so it's nice and light, well until you start adding the moderator and bipod haha. I forgot to say Adam sorry, it was all done on x7 mag, I need to do it with other mags but I mainly use x7. I want to get into using chairgun and that but it confuses me and I'm without a chrono so it's impossible. I might do another one for 30 yards onwards for 9x mag that might be good to do. jandcguns 65
brillliant accuracy just like my s200 untill my scopes broke Quote Link to post
Mawders 595
Yeah they really are truly accurate little rifles! Very underrated. Well played. Quote Link to post
Craig Fosse 286
I must admit I can't rate them enough, and I don't think they get enough honor really, I had a **** smk b19 which I treated myself to after I came back from afgan 2 years ago, as much as I loved it I couldn't accurated shoot anything further than 25 yards away, that and being thought centre fire through the military I didn't get on. My gun club owner pointed me towards the s200 a year ago and I haven't looked back! Although I thnk in the future I may aim at a springer I wouldn't mind having a Pcp and a springer only locker but a springer that is a hunter too, however I'm still paying off the s200 and all it's bits hahaha! Craig Fosse 286
Sorry for the typos damn iPad and that dictionary thing !! Quote Link to post
Mawders 595
Did you get your S200 from the airgun centre mate? Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
Excellent accuracy Craig. You shoot that rifle well. The way you have calibrated your aim points is the best way to do it without worrying about pellet BC, pellet weight, rifle power and scope height. All things you would need if using CGP. Si. Craig Fosse 286
Cheers si, unfortunately it just means I have to do that again at different mags I can't just put it in chairgun!, I got my s200 from sportsman gun centre outside Yeovil and Dorchester, it's close to where I was based, cheapest I found it anywhere at £369 with two tins of pellets free of my choice Quote Link to post
