Recommended Posts

Alright lads trying to find out what year the Weirauch HW80 was introduced to Britain i tried google but just ended up with serial numbers but i cant seem to find to find one on my gun (only just got it and havent took the stock off yet.) Also mine says Edgar Brothers Maccelsfield on the top i thaught Hull Cartridge have always imported Wheirauchs? Any help dating the gun would be brilliant.

Hi Sam.

About Spring 1981 it arrived here. I bought one of the very first. a .22 long-barreled 80 in about September 1982, I think.

It appeared with a more angular stock and was a revelation in break-barrel air rifles at the time. It was advertised as a powerhouse air rifle, "The most powerful air rifle you can buy!" Ran the advertising. And it's legendary powerhouse image still persists to this day. But in reality, it was an incredibly accurate air rifle running on just over 11ft/lbs and possibly the most accurate production break barrel air rifle of the time. Proving for the first time that real power is precision accuracy. Not power itself.

That said, they are unbelievably accurate on FAC power levels!:blink:

hi pianoman what sort of power level can a fac hw80 run at and still shoot sweetly? iv gone pcp for the last 6 years and will have lost touch springers and so no doubt shoot them badly after such a break :duh: but they have some sort of invisable force attracting me back to them and sub 12 too for some reason. As a teen I had a HW85K witch was my faveroute gun of all time, but hw80 fac is interesting to find out about for curiosity reasons

cheers tom.

Titan spring and tune has my HW80 .22 to 21-22 Ft/lbs Tom. RWS Superfield is the pellet I use with it. They don't need to be running more than that. It produces pellet-on-pellet precision groups at my 30-metre zero and will take out rabbits and mink at decent ranges humanely.

Hi Sam.

I bought mine mail order direct from Uttings. I'm certain it was a Hull Cartridge import as it was serial numbered. I have a memory of a company under John Rothery Ltd. as one of the other importers at the time in my head. Could be wrong there though. It's been thirty years past now. ;)
