ftm 3,357
hi lads i went beating today &after a bad start to the day [crashed the motor on the way] keeper came to my rescue and we set off beating . with the snow being so deep it wasnt long before koda was carrying balls of snow & ice on his chest and feathered legs ,i cleaned off at the end of each drive to ease his burden but the last drive we do is a bit big & consists of driving birds to a more suitable wood . we achieved that & set about working the plantation which is hard work at the best of times but double hard today with all the snow and koda set off already carrying a bit of snow on his chest i lost him very early in this drive and peeped him with no response [never ever ignores me] so thinking he is with another lad i carried on to the end of the wood expecting to see him with my mate but no sign of him so i set off in search & nearly an hour passed before i found him with more snow /ice on him than his body could carry and he couldnt even walk ,it took a while to clear him up but he was done in & i boxed him up in the motor [patched up bumper /headlights ] and called it a day ,it was a little wake up call into how things can go pear shaped in a very short time -billy Quote Link to post

stroller 341
My labradoodle sometimes gets a bit on his legs but for some reason yesterday he was free of snow! The fields had about 4 inches on them the woods less but it was a fecking hard day for not a lot, slept for 12 hours last night and i feel trashed this morning had the dogs out for an hour this morning and i had to keep stopping for a rest. The big lad is fine though but he makes me smile the way he knows im not quite right and waits for me to catch up whilst the younger dogs are racing about. Vaseline works if you smear it on legs but it also marks your carpets if your dogs come indoors like my lot. Quote Link to post
welshboyarcher 4
I haven't tried it for snow, but you could try one of the horse silicone based sprays. Stops mud sticking too much anyway. And no marks on carpets either:) Edited January 20, 2013 by welshboyarcher Quote Link to post
ftm 3,357
koda is being trimmed up today lads only reason i dont like cutting /trimming is that he lives outside & i leave his coat alone but after that scare i will be on my toes -billy Quote Link to post
eddie3 9
tub of petroleum jelly/vaseline smear the parts where the snow balling occures before the shoot starts works for my two. Quote Link to post
