zini 1,939
I personally have full respect to blokes and girls who can use a 30 / 30 reticule accurately at all ranges from 5 to 55 yards instinctively with a sub 12 air rifle . I know i couldn't even with much practice . I've tried and for many years too but to no great effects . I have witnessed Pianoman though smash HFT targets down easily enough with his 30 / 30 and an AA TX200HC, so i know I can be used effectively (credit due where credit deserved). I used to have a Simmons Pro Air too like Simon which was a 30 / 30 ret and i always used to calibrate the bullet drop compensating (BDC ) turret and dial in the correct MOA like the military snipers do as i was crap with estimation on a smooth reticule. Once it was calibrated though and the MOA was used vermin did feel the pellet . I really rely now on a multi aim point type of reticule (The new SR Pro and Half mildot being my favorites ATM) and wouldn't ever go back to a 30 / 30 unless on a ratting combo with a very low mag of say 1.5 to 3 or something like that. Each to their own though . It would be interesting to see out of the top 100 HFT shooters in the country or even the world, how many of them actually use a 30 / 30 ret. I reckon not more than a handful, but who knows. We have all been seriously spoilt with these new great scopes Si. 2 Quote Link to post
woodcote1 88
I shoot out to 40 yards max but apart from ratting , most of my shots are 25 - 30 yards so no problem with a plain ret . 3 Quote Link to post
