lamping_lad 8
Hi lads, I used to play a lot of golf when I was younger and as one would expect when the ball was hit straight into the wind it went higher but not as far and going downwind it went lower and further. I had thought that a bullets trajectory would be similarly affected but when I said it to my buddy he said I couldn't be more wrong. Could any of you shed a bit more light on this if you wouldn't mind? L_L Quote Link to post
tegater 789
So many different variables with the wind.!! Shooting head on at short range with a flat shooting bullet, the added force is friction from the wind, which slows the bullet down, but so marginally that you won't notice. Shooting uphill at a shot where the head wind can get under the bullet, or shooting at long dis dance where the trajectory is more acute it may lift it, but it will still slow it down. Shooting downhill, into a headwind that is straight at you, again the wind may slow the bullet down, but the wind will also force the bullet down, as a result of the wind hitting the bullet at an angle. You also need to take into account the affect of gravity on an uphill or downhill shot which will alter your usual point of impact high, again, slightly dependant on distance. A right to left wind will push the bullet left and high, if rifle is rh twist. The opposite for a left to right wind. Tail winds will have the opposite affect to head winds. There is no hard rule, it all depends on the angle the wind is hitting the bullet! Quote Link to post
