Squirrel_Basher 17,102
I cannot thank a mate of mine enough for lending me ,indefinately,a scope for the new tikka t3 ,243.Zeroed it in yesterday evening and then set off for a well earned stalk .Foxhunter will know the area on a set aside field full of self sown rape in strips left by the combine 2 years ago .Spied a pair of roe on the far side and made out one as a buck .The stalk was challenging as they were in sight the whole time with 2 pairs of eyes to contend with .But ,by being careful to move only when both had their heads down I narrowed the gap to 70yds.I've recently bought a set of stalking sticks of the double sort which can be pushed in to allow a kneeling position as well as the standing pose and these allowed a rock steady shot off the favoured kneeling position .The buck collapsed and never moved at the shot through the heart and a nice young buck was dressed out . Nice. Waited for dark to fall and had a look round with the lamp and .22 as the chicken killing has stated again on this farm and cubs had been spotted .Walked the whole farm with no sign of a fox apart from chicken feathers from recent kills .Back to the truck with a view to try somewhere eles but never got there .A cub ran away from almost under the truck and I let it settle before trying a squeak. It can hammering in to within 10 yds and down it went.Another load sqeak had the second running in fast from an orchard and that was accounted for .Moved out into a field nearby and spotted 2 more sets of eyes .Squeaked and both came running .Had to stop one at 10 yds otherwise he would have been on my lap !.shot this then switched the beam to the other which hadnt moved and was accounted for .4 in the space of 5 minutes .Nice. They appear to be from 2 seperate litters as there is a definate size difference between 2 couples .Had thought to go back home for the terrier as the earths are very shallow here but decide to leave them for the lamp . FOXHUNTER 5,021
Good stuff mate , glad you have eventually made a kill with the tikka . That set a side field seems to be a cracker for the roe. Are there a few bucks showing in that area now ? Should have some good calling around there in the rut !! Have the deer re-appeared on that field you showed me that holds big numbers but they had disappeared when we went ? Also any munties being seen around the chicken farm ?? Speak shortly mate , hopefully the Tikka will get some fallow deer later Quote Link to post
