Rats

I have an 9 month old Irish Stafford and want to get him started on rats and I'm new to this. If anyone wants any company when they go ratting to show me the ropes and what not it would be appreciated. Any advice welcome.

Have a look on youtube a rating videos , I learnt some good technics by seeing how the pro's did it ...

Get yourself some permission if possible .The more you take the dog the better. a smoker will come in handy, take a friend along, maybe he can work the smoker while you position your dog. Gudluk john

First things first mate get your dog used to livestock of all kinds before you take it ratting. Last thing you want is to deal with is the aftermath of your pup killing something it shouldn't. It might cost someone their permission. Teaching the pup not to worry stock whilst "on the job" isn't the best way forward. Better to get the stock breaking out of the way first then focus on catching rats.

is it legal to put rat traps anywhere or would i need permission to put them down?

Don't do what Welshydale suggests, it is seen as baiting and illegal. Keep up with the stock training and get out to see some farmers.
