Minimum barrel lenght for a rifle?

Was talking with a mate today and the topic came up, and neither of us where sure. so, does anyone know if there is a minimum length by law for a rifle barrel, and if so what is it?

Minimum 12 inch barrel and 24 inch over all length for sec1

i know ITs off topic BUT

 

cutting length off air rifle barrel will lower ftlb as the pellets is not in barrel long enough to gather speed.

 

so if you do cut off a considerable amount u may have to increase power.
