jultaylor1972 2
I got up at 5am and went out with the dogs, didnt catch anything but got some good practice in with my catapult (Im a better shot with my air rifle ). I got home with two exhausted dogs and thought I'd let the ferts have a play in the garden. Had loads of fun with them for well over an hour and then I discovered the little kit was no where to be seen . Now, I have got EVERY possible escape route blocked with mesh (Or so I thought) and I didnt leave them for one second. I was beside myself for ages while I searched for her (She's got my other half bang into ferrets as she's so cute and playful)Anyhow, after half an hour of searching and climbing over neighbours fences I caught sight of the tail end of her about 100 yards down the street! I have never ran as fast in my life and I got her just before she went into someones garden What a relief! im going to get her out on her own later and watch her like a hawk to find her escape route and block it off. Here's the escape artist. Quote Link to post
Greenrodders 0
If she's as good at finding her way around a rabbit burrow then you've got a winner there Well done for catching her, but I thought ferret racing was meant to be ferret versus ferret Quote Link to post

Kay 3,709
Its your worst nightmare escaping ferrets i remember picking up 8 ferrets from a house during the winter some yrs ago & i put them in a run i had , 3 hours later a neighbour knocked & said there was a ferret in his garden, i panniced big time & went out to get it, i got back in the garden & there were 3 misssing One was climbing up next doors rabbit run luckly they were away so i lefted a panel of fence & the other one was found in the garden, i had not closed the run properly so i learned a valuable lesson that evening Thank god you got them back Quote Link to post
gibby 0
Just last night a similar thing happened to me! Ive got a kinda collapsing foldout run that pins into the grass. Put the kits in it last night while I cleaned the hutch out then in the corner of my eye I saw two of them about 5 foot away from the run. Put them back in and then they showed me there escape route, one of the corners wasnt pinned together right and they were squeezing out of a hole about 1 1/2 inches or so! Lucky I was still outside because I was going to leave them for a bit to have a mooch about! Quote Link to post

Good advice Gibby i have done that put the ferret back if i cant see an obvious escape route & the buggers taken me to the spot in seconds There little shits Quote Link to post
Herdsman 0
I know the feeling well. Fortunately they haven't wandered but stayed to destroy the garden. Mind they've escaped because of doors not being shut properly not because of breaching the defences. I remember one the did get away for a whole day, eventually found him in the next street. There were reports of this large hob chasing a woman and her dog I thought that amusing. As I drove down the street by chance saw him in the corner of my eye in a garden. Quote Link to post
ferret15 0
i tock in a stray jill a few years aog and quickly found out why she was a stray she would find her way out of the smalist hole or gap i had to fix three bolts to the hutch door as she would push against it untill she found some where it gave slightly then she would pour herself through the gap she was with two other jills and they couldent get through the same gap it was alright though as my nextdoor neighbour has rabbits and she went there my neighbour was alerted by her rabbit thumping its hutch Quote Link to post

jultaylor1972 2
Well, I spent 45 minutes with the little one watching every move she made and it was as if she was taking the P**s!! She ran all over the garden and did a few dances here and there, jumping around my feet and generally having the time of her life!! But I am no further forward in finding her escape route She's a clever little bugger! Ive ended up putting collars on the three of them with a disc including my phone number in case any of them get out again, I SO dont want to go through that again I would imagine that the general public would see a ferret roaming around and say "Eeh, look at that" but with a colar on they might say "Eeh, that must be someones pet" Thats the thinking behind the madness anyway I suppose it wont come as a great shock come the winter when they get their locator collars on Quote Link to post
mooster 1
Happened to me 2 years ago. There are loads of foreign students living near me.One evening a group of malasian student blokes came running past my house chasing one of my young jills with a cardboard box.Usual thing..they were half scared. And acted like I was a lion tamer when I picked her up and took her home! Quote Link to post

Guest ARTEMIS
Really pleased you found your little ferret - how old is she by the way? Mine are already trying to escape everytime I feed them! I need 3 hands - one to put the food dish in, one to hold the door and another hand to catch them as they leap out on me! It's gonna be really tricky if ours get into neighbours gardens as there is no "through" route, and some of the neighbours are away a lot - and leave their gardens locked! I'll need ladders to chase after mine if that's where they end up! :search: Quote Link to post
jultaylor1972 2
She is 10 weeks this friday Believe me, it would have been so much better if I'd had ladders!! I was like Private Benjamin (Only fatter) trying to pull myself over the fences Im also covered in bruises today. Im just pleased to have found her, I would have been gutted if I'd lost her like that She was like lightening going down the street! How are your two? Quote Link to post
