Gaz_1989 9,539
Does anyone successfully work an ex-racing greyhound? I know they aren't ever going to be as good as a purpose bred and reared lurcher but has anyone successfully got one working? Cheers Gaz Quote Link to post
BEARINATOR 2,924
Yes Gaz, I've got a couple that I've retired from the track, handy dogs when trained Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Thanks Bear. My mate who I go out on the lamp with alot has had an accident with his working lurcher bitch and has been offered an ex-racer. His bitch MAY or MAY NOT run again, either way it wont be this season. So hes thinking of having the greyhound and just seeing how he gets on, it gives him something to work with now instead of not being out and about. Cheers Gaz Quote Link to post
fitchet 788
I know a feller whos into his greyhounds he got a one eyed ugly bugger that can catch a couple of rabbits on the lamp. Alot of people say they get injured but i think there good enough on the right ground. ATB Quote Link to post

troter58 1,711
if brought on from a young age they can do a job for you but a older track dog will be in sick bay very fast you got to think the ex track dog as only ever ran in straight lines in the field theres all sorts of thing it will hit at full bore do not forget a track dog as never jumped so he is going through it not over it and as nothing in its mind but what ever it is chasing it as no fieldcraft but all the best with one if you try one. troter 1 Quote Link to post

Hes not a daft lad, he will spend a good few weeks bonding with it and trying to get it used to trees/fences etc before he tries it on the lamp but he is well aware of the risks Quote Link to post
