moxy 617
Over the last couple of days I have been finding ferret crap near to my ferret court. As it happens I have the odd duck which every now and again escape the confines of their run and decide to go free range, so the odd turds I have been finding I just passed off as the ducks. What a stupid oversight that was on my behalf! I let the little dog out last night for a little light relief as per usual. On this occasion she was longer than usual and a little reluctant to be brought back in? Now this little dog is mustard on the rats and can cope with the odd rabbit but has always been steady around the ducks and she knows her job with the ferrets. The wife woke me this morning going balmy at the little dog. One of the ducks had been pulled head first through the stock fence and had all the flesh striped from the neck. I backed up the little dog, discounting the wife's claims but still with an element of doubt in my mind. Anyhoo. Just been out to feed the stinkers and noticed two fresh turds. This time they were clearly identifiable as ferret crap. Checked my court and did a head count. All present. I then noticed the little dog marking a hole which runs under a solid fence through to the neighbours. No sooner had the thought of a rouge ferret entered my head, the phone rang. It was a fella 200yds down the road, " have you lost a ferret"? " I have just caught one trying to get the lasses rabbit"! No I exclaimed but said I would have it. So I'm now a sandy Jill up, a duck down, although the fecker hadn't been laying well and was for the chop sooner or later, and some making up to the little dog to be done. I have a feeling I know where the fert has come from, and the housing is more than sub standard. I suppose you could relate it to a shanty town. They ain't having the Jill back neither and I've baited a load of cages just in case we have any more rouges. So don't know wether I'm chuffed or miffed 1 Quote Link to post
Malt 379
I sort of know the feeling! Once had the dreaded phone call from a mate who lived nearby, 'are any of your ferrets missing? Just been out to check the kids rabbit and its been killed by a ferret which is in the hutch drinking out the water bottle!' Quick head count and it wasn't one of mine, so I went round be to pick it up and recognised it straight away as a pet ferret who I had already taken home once a few weeks beforehand after it'd turned up in my garden and came straight over to me. Sad thing was it belonged to a young kid and was tame and as friendly as hell. I gave it back and later heard through the grapevine that it had since escaped for a third time and hasn't been seen since. Kids mother was the daughter of one of my dads old hunting buddies, shed grown up round ferrets so you'd have thought she'd know all about how ferrets are master escape artists. Even if she didn't, she should of learnt after the first time. Poor kid loved his little buddy and lost him in the end.. Quote Link to post
joe14 98
Well done for takin it in mate. I know the feeling i got handed one. The ferrets feet had dryed on shit stuck to them and its nails were curling under. I rand vets and reported it as found (which is what id hope someone would do if they had one of mine). Turns out the woman had already reported it as missing so i think ok so they must care about it. She turns up and i ask why its nails are so long and why its in such bad condition(it was her sons ferret) I went round to house with her as i told them they were not having the ferret back to be neglected. The hutch's were only fit for the tip (they were piss rotten, shit all up sides). I said burn the lot and get some new ones and propper food etc and I will think about it. Week later she turns up and i went round there, new hutch, propper food, a run, clean water bottles. Just goes to show I might of been abit harsh but when she saw mine and seen how ferrets should be kept she actually felt bad. Edited October 8, 2012 by joe14 Quote Link to post
