Red Dot Sight Time.

Recommended Posts

I had a wander around the farm buildings on one of my permisions yesterday and knocked off a crow from one of the dead branches on the top of a massive oak tree although its a measured 62 yards from where I allways shoot from I have had 2 woodies and a dove from the same branch in the last 3 visits there I know I can drop anything by giving the quarry 3 milldot holdover at that range. I dont try to pull off headshots as in all probability I would miss more than hit..anyway I was sitting on a bale of hay waiting for more of the crows to stop whirling about calling in alarm at the sight of their member lying at the base of the tree and drop onto the same tree when I caught the sight of movement to the side of my position, turning round it was a squirrel which on seeing me move ran and shot up to the roof of a small outbuilding it stopped only about 20 feet away and I raised my gun and tried to shoot it but as it was parallaxed for 60 yards and the mag set at 10X it was a blur by the time I had turned the very stiff PA wheel the squirrel had disapeared over the roof. Sod It!. I then thought the next time I visit I will take my AA 4100 Carbine with a Hawke red dot sight fitted just the job for close quick targets I have been shooting at this farm since 1972 and it is troubled all the time by red deer and muntjacks. plus of course by loads of rabbits but the only rabbits I have shot there recently are suffering with mixy. and I have never seen it so bad before. There is plenty of apple, damson, and a big Walnut tree in the garden next to the farmhouse and there is also a big conker tree as well. The farmer asked if I would knock off the squirrels but its not as easy as he thinks, It is time consuming hiding in the closest outbuildings peering through a partly opened door hoping to catch them crossing the yard from the conker tree to the Walnut tree. I think next time I will ask a couple of mates along to knock off as many squirrels as possible.

if you can find the drays first, and if theres two or three troops of them may well be worth waiting till the young bucks start mouthing off at the oposites.. then bush wack on through lol.

spook the first troop bucks into the next troops turf, all hell brakes loose, then chaise those into the next turf, brings every bugger out if you do it right. be prepaired for some serious kneck ache and a load of pellets...
