R.A.W 1,987
Sunday morning. it was an early start to the day still dark as i ate my breakfast. i could hear the dogs getting excited in the the run so i had to rush for fear of waking the mrs. my dogs were loaded and off i went. excited myself for today was new ground for me to hunt and was a little unsure of the territory .it was over cast and a little blustery as i drove to meet my friends. after a quick catch up it was down to business. the lay out of the wood to be hunted was explained to me and the best positions for the guns was discussed. and off they went. I waited for confirmation that everyone had taken there position then let out the hounds. off we went down the field . i wanted them to have a run around before they started to work. they are still pups at a year old so it takes them a few minutes to settle. sticking to the fence line off we went when sudenly one of the pups stern started to feather followed by an excited yip. before i had to tell them they were off in full cry up following a line towards the large wood. (this is to good to be true i thought) as i jogged behind. they slowed down on the stile into the wood. then had to check it wasn't long before one of them pick it up again and the music echoed across the valley once more. the music started to fade as they hunted deeper into the wood and i struggled to keep sight of them. time seems to stand still as they open nothing else matters . its times like this that you relise how in tune with your dogs your are. even thou you cant see them . you can build a picture of there action in your mind just by how they are speaking. soon enough they stop moving and changed there tone. i made my way towards them to find them marking a rabbit to ground. i then took the hounds to towards the center of the wood and began to cast them. each time drew a blank untill i crossed over a well walked path into some dense cover on a steep bank. two bitches disappeard out of sight then started to open the rest were diving and twisting thou the cover to be there. they took the line really steady not many checks and i was able to play my part from the royal box view at the top of the bank. all of a sudden the direction of the line changed up the bank into the depths of the wood. then a loud crack of a gun sounded as the hound snaked there way towards it. it's at times like this that a piece of advice off someone on here that was told to me on here rings true( be carefull who you give a radio to it will sound like a taxi office lol)another rabbits for the pot. now that wasn't the end but you've most likley fallen asleep so i'll spare you the whole morning. hope you enjoyed the topic Quote Link to post
