IanS 3
I'm after my FAC for .22 rimfire but wandering what gun cabinets I need and how many? I guess I need a rifle cabinet not shotgun since they appear to be bigger and then I need another for the ammo and possibly a 3rd box for the keys to both? Also where is the best place to look for a 2nd hand one? Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
Rifle cabinets are deeper front to back to accommodate a scope on the rifle. I use Brattonsound myself, but I'm sure there are many others just as good. You will need separate storage for ammo. My FEO allows any safe, not specifically an ammo one, as long as it is securely bolted to the wall. What you do with the keys is your business, as long as no-one else knows where they are and doesn't have access to them under any circumstances. The auction site occasionally has second hand ones but they still seem to fetch fair money. Hope this helps. Quote Link to post
IanS 3
Could i get a rifle cabinet and a small safe and keep both the cabinet keys and ammo in the same safe? Or do all three have to be separate from each other? Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
I can't see any legal reason why you couldn't do that, but I am inclined to think that if you were (god forbid) burgled, if someone got into your small safe, they would then have the keys to your gun cabinet. It would probably make more sense to keep all 3 separate. Ask your FEO for a definite answer. Quote Link to post
IanS 3
Good point so how do people get away with having a rifle cabinet with lockable ammo box inside? Edited September 10, 2012 by IanS Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
Hmmm. I presume it's because the gun cabinet is a lot harder to get into than a small safe? I just went the separate safe route because the internal ones are really small. Even with the internal safe, the ammo is still technically separate from the guns. The one 8,552
you only need one cabinet mate ive got a nine gun rifle one and all my guns are in it , go for the biggest one you can afford as it takes the scope and you dont want to be unscrewing the silencer every time you put it away and go for one with a lockable shelf and you can keep your ammo there ,you dont need to lock away your keys as long as there secure Quote Link to post
