vixen 528
Came down to wales to go to a family wedding with my fiance two weeks ago and i'm still here, just got plaster cast off my leg and have crutches, i'm not allowed to put my foot down or drive. I had a sore ankle two weeks prior to coming down, which just happened out running with my dogs, and it got worse, went to hospital down here and they told me i have Achilles Tendonitis, have any of you had this and how long did it take to get better? any info appreciated thanks

MissRhianL 70
Achillies tendonitis is inflammation within the tendon itself, whether you have an old reoccuring injury and its come to this or you have a rupture in the tendon somewhere down the line, its a bugga to heal as its only a tendon, tendons dont have blood supply and this is why it is a lengthy process in the healing stage, where as if it was a muscle which we know are full of blood it got the ability to bring in cells to encourage and fight against torns fibres and thats why muscles can take a few days to a few weeks depending on the severity of the injury. Tendon damage and inflammation will go when its ready, longs if your taking medication to try and reduce the inflammation i wouldnt attempt doing anything at the moment as you could think a light walk will do it abit of good but if it aggrevate the inflammation and cause it to flare up again your bak to square one unfortunately hope this makes things a little more clear to you about anchilles tendonitis all the best in your recovery Rhian

Wullz 408
I did both of mine badly at pre-season rugby training. It's agony, you have my sympathy. Have you tried accupunture before? I got this on both achilles and it worked amazingly well.....apparently it works for some people and not for others, all I can tell you is that it sorted my achilles out in 3 sessions and I suggest you give it a try. If it doesnt work, you have lost nothing!

As said a good massage therapist and acupuncture are both good methods, rhians post was spot on aswell but be aware if you don't fully heal now it will reoccur many a time. I have really bad tendonitous In my tendons around my shins muscles that are now classed as cronic and it will now be a regular theme during and after exercise. I just take very strong ibro from doc and compression socks with ruby grips over top with good physio with this means I can still get around lol
