Introducing a new pup to grumpy staffy and sleeping outside

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am acquiring an 8 week old springer pup to train as a gun dog for picking up and beating. However i also have a 10 year old staffy.

The staffy has been very good with my mums bitch on her territory and even on his territory but i am unsure how he will cope with a puppy.

He will tolerate other dogs when out walking for a short while but eventually gets fed up and has a "go" he is not a playful dog and was rescued so never really learnt to be sociable, despite many walks and interactions with other dogs.

What would be the best way to introduce him to the new pup (dog) I have been thinking of leaving pup at my mums and bringing back something that smells of the pup, then take him to visit mum and the dog. eventually leading up to the pup coming back to my house. What do you think?

Also:

I have always had dogs that have lived inside all year round but we have a 7 month old daughter and i am interested in what people think of having the pup sleep outside (in a kennel with plenty of straw) when it is a bit older. At what age would it be o.k to try this and could this cause problems if the staffy is alowed to sleep inside?

be grateful of any advice

Many thanks

James

just kennel your springer pup outside from the start, never leave them together unsupervised and things should be fine. my cocker pup went outside straight away, i've also a 4 month old Stafford pup who's happy inside or out, so to keep the cocker quiet in his new surroundings, the Stafford went out with him for company, they're the best of muckers.
