ATTEMPT AT BREAKING COTTON THREAD WITH BSA SCORPION SE.177

Recommended Posts

With having this present breathing problem i was a bit fed up of staying in the house so i thought i'd do a little shooting in the back yard. so out i went and set up some cotton thread on some of those pins that you use for pinning up messages on those cork boards set them against white paper to see results. I started shooting on the first thread starting right to left was not pleased with the start anyway here's the Vid watch untill end as i moved on to a grouping shots: Dave

nice vids mate

One thing I will comment on is the same as Skot, youre breathing is fine until you come to take the shots, you seem to be holding your breath far too long hence the wobbling camera as your muscles get fatigued due to lack of oxygen

Your right Darryl ive had a stinker of a throat infection that i havent got over yet, and every time i old my breath i feel like i have to breeth straight away. Darryl do you shoot with War Kid, and were you on Airgun Universe before it folded: Dave

Try doing it on the exhale rahter than inhaling and holding your breath.

Thats when your body is at its tighestest and most stable, squeeze the trigger on the exhale and take up first pressure, reach the bottom of the exhale when the stomarch is tightest , pause in breathing (no more that 5 seconds) squeeze second pressure, shot is fired then breathe again. If after the 5 seconds you have not taken the shot release the pressure and breathe again, compose and start over  thats how i got taught and it works well for me

Give it a try and see how you feel  everyone developes their own rythem

eyup bud what camera do you use and how do you mount it to your rifle?

good shooting shame about your breathing hope it improves a bit for you ;)

all the best

Hi the Camera is a JVC EVERIO HDD 40 GIG, HD 32 X OPTICAL, 800 X DIGITAL, I used the scope clamp from a Deban Tristar Lamp that was broken and adapted it to screw into the tripod fastening underneath. you can buy brackets for mounting camera's to bike handlebars of e-bay for a few quid that will then clamp onto the scope, but my method is so easy to put on and take off it just snaps on: Dave

If im teaching you to suck eggs please ignore me but when you look down the sight to the target try and get it so that the crosshairs only move up and down when you breathe, if they move left and right then your shooting position is too loose and needs to be tightened up.

The crosshairs should be in sync with your breathing over the target , so for me the crosshairs are where i want them when i reach the bottom of the exhale (when i take my shot) and rise when i breathe in.

A good tip is to point at the target as if you were going to shoot, close your eyes and breathe for a few seconds, open your eyes and you will see where your natural body position is pointing the rifle, this should be over the target, if it isnt you need to re adjust so you point naturally at the target, keep doing it until when you close your eyes and open them you are over the target, this will improve the accuracy as you are not straining the muscles to pull the rifle into an un natural position and will cut down on the shaking.

Thanks Adam that is my normal technique, but i was so out of breath when i did the Vid that i was actually shaking, the infection had caused my throat to swell partially obstructing my airway thats what my problem was i probably shouldn't have done the Vid but i was so fed up of sitting in the house: Dave

Thanks Adam, hope I'm better by Tues when i go to the Docs as i plan to go shooting all being well that evening, we have a field that as not been shot for a year, and was just cut on Thursday for the Hay. And Alan B that shoots with me actually cut it, as he helps out on the Farm and while he was cutting it Rabbits were flying out every ware, and the field is easily accessible for my 4x4 so it wont stress me out too much ATVB : Dave
