.25 cal airgun what they like

hi i was thinking of getting a 12ft lbs .25 cal airgun.

 

What are they Like ??

 

what range can you shoot them too ??

 

or are they just not that good

 

i was thinking of close range rabbits and rats to 20 - 25 yards would this calibre be okay at these ranges ??

would be great for ratting wouldn't think your range would be much less than a 22 you just have to give a bit more hold over

To be honest mate a .25 would be better at FAC power outputs due to the weight of the pellets like 18-31 gr...I used 18gr H&N's in my sub 12ftlb TX200 they were ok but due to the weight it lacked performance if im honest......In FAC though it would be very nice

They are great for FAC air rifles, retain a lot of kinetic energy but has a more parabolic trajectory (think thats the right word, loops a lot more)

 

I would recommend getting a .22 for rabbits at that range rather than a .25

went out shooting rats with my uncles bsa ultra 25cal its was great really would get one just for ratting Edited July 9, 2012 by hugo1

If your thinking about .25 send phil8282 a pm I've got one of his ultra .25 fantastic bit of kit with serious stopping power I've only used it out to about 25yds at moment but planning on taking that out to 30 once I'm used to the trajectory

i was thinking of a possible springer does any one know about them???, but if a pcp is very good then i might decide to get one

what about pellets tho are there any good makes

If its a springer give venom viper a shout he uses a erm argh bugger can't remember make but a .25 springer

Weihrauch HW80 makes a great .25 cal. rifle and it's one air rifle that will easily take a higher power tuning. HW77 is available in .25 also and I'm seriously interested in adding a .25 '77 or FAC HW80 to my armoury.

 

To map the trajectory of your shot accurately with your scope, simply set up a series of targets at 5-metre intervals from 10 to 30 metres or however far out you can comfortably shoot to. Zero the scope at say, 25 and see where your shot is falling over those ranges closest to furthest and back.

 

I'd say a hit anywhere in the head with a .25 round would easily kill any of the usual airgun quarry.
