open season 21
hi bud my lads meteor is only pushing 5ftlbs and it waks the pellets out at 20 yards with ease 25 yards hes knocking metal tagets down but not enough power to stand the targets back up, i would say safe bet is around 20 yards to 25, bud not forgetting you need a well placed head shot any way, i always think lower power not worth risking any long range shots over 20 yards for live quarry but thats my opinion bud. matt_hooks 188
A bunny takes less than 3 ft.lb to kill it if you hit it in the right place. Chairgun pro says that the pellet drops below 3 ft.lb at 140 yards. So killing energy isn't an issue at normal air gun ranges. What's more of an issue is putting the pellet in the right place. The .22 trajectory is loopy to say the least. At 30 yards, with a heavy pellet at 9.25 ft.lb, your drop will be 18 inches or so. Your MV is only marginally above 500 fps with those numbers! If you can judge the range accurately (and it needs to be within the nearest foot or so at ranges past 30 yards at that velocity) and you have the time to spend learning the trajectory then there's no reason not to use the pellet out past 30, even forty yards. If you expect to be able to go out, without spending many hours at the range, and reliably shoot vermin with it, then you need to have a rethink! Quote Link to post
diggermad 154
cheers matt for that is that with co2 as well Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
What method of imparting the velocity you use makes no difference to the trajectory of the pellet. Quote Link to post
diggermad 154
thanks again mate Quote Link to post
robwelsh 354
Try a lighter pellet if you want to hunt with 9ft lbs in .22 1 Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
thats what id have said aswell, try a few lighter pellets to see if you get a bit more power, possibly a slightly flatter trajectory aswell? accuracy is defo the main thing you should consider tho if it was me i wouldnt try shoot it further than 30-35 yards .. at vermin. better safe than sorry Quote Link to post
