SNARE QUESTION : RABBITS ON STEROIDS ?

just started getting into snaring after buying the DVD from woodga & my snares from jbs nets. i went out friday evening to set 20 snares on a field that were having alot of bunny damage on. out of twenty set i accounted for seven catches in total but could only account for 4 in the bag as 3 were broke. the worse snare that i had damage on was the one posted below... what would cause such damage ? badger ? fox ? or a bunny on anabolic steroids ? .another question i have is a few of the experts say only use 6 strand snares & not 8. what do others prefer to use ? pros & cons. i thought that if i used an 8 strand snare this might help stop rabbits breaking away.

no evidence of any animals killed ... or fur around for that matter.

first of all your tealer is to thin and weak , shop bought snares are badly designed , half spun , and not long enough , with a wind down from the eye , they kink and snap more readily , a proper pro. rabbit snare 221/2 inches long and spun firmly is more than strong enough , to hold large winter rabbits of 6lb. it also holds hares and good big fox cubs and feral cats easily , i have had adult foxes caught and dead in them at times , but a foot snared fox just bites through them in seconds , an eight or ten strand is absolutely uneccessary i would not be bothered with them , a waste of brass wire , they are like tow rope , all of the professional trappers who taught me never ever used heavier than six stand , snareman.

hi snareman.. the snares i use are 23 inches in length and are 6 strands. the tealers never broke but after close inspection i found what seemed to be teeth or claw marks, what i wanted to know was what other trappers used ie: 6 or 8 strand and the pros and cons. just thought that as i saw no evidence of dead or mamed bunnies around i just took it for granted that they broke free... but thanks for your answer i take it now i probably caught a fox. and the ones that got away ? win some , lose some :not_i: .
