jhiggins 48
Im sure this topic has been done to death but i thought i would ask for some advice anyway.... I have been ferreting for a few years now and have been using my patterdale to help out where he can, but recently i have been getting into lamping. Ive been out a few times with a friend of mine and it would be fair to say ive got the bug!! The permission we have got for both the ferreting and the lamping mainly consists of relatively small fields rather than open arable fields and it has everything on it.... Ive been reading "The Working Longdog" by F.Sheardown which is a great book but a bit out of date, especially when it comes to the newer crosses that are about now. The book has some great advice for starting out and for choosing which breed will be best suited to what im hoping to get into but i would be greatful of any advice u guys could come up with. Im sure its the same old storey with lurchers as it is with all working dogs where people try and get their dog to do too many things and they end up being average at all of them but great at none, i certainly found that with this terrier who i ask to do way too many different things! I would, however, be grateful of any advice. Thanks Quote Link to post
baw 4,360
I don't know how long your friends been lamping the land but I'd be tempted to suggest if his dog is doing well then ask him if he is happy with it. Failing that for you starting out, can't get better than the tried and tested collie cross. Do everything you want and more. Quote Link to post
