hairyface,

there has been a farm dog in Oz for 150+ years thats called a "mini foxy" or "miniature fox terrier". They have been mainly kept for rats/mice/rabbits and as pets. In 1998, the RSPCA was talking about mandatory desexing of unrecognised breeds (of which the mini foxy is one i.e. not recognised by the Australian National Kennel Council). So, to get the breed recognised (for its safety), they had to change the name because the dogs are not a miniature of the fox terrier. Tenterfield was chosen because of several reasons. I was given a pair, and was not expecting much out of them, but to my surprise, they both turned out to be good workers to fox, and I bred on from there. As with a lot of breeds, 99.99% are show shite.

This is a pic of Sam. He was the original male I was given. Pic was taken last year. 7 year old and still going strong.
