Woodworm1972 24
Hi guys Got a silencer to quiten things down a bit, only to find the noise inside the gun enough to startle any quarry! The current configuration inside the mechanism is: Guide rod ( steel), Striker/hammer, Main Spring (standard), Guide washer and finally a spacer washer. Is there any way of softening the action without adversely affecting the operation of the mechanism? Its been suggested the use of a balloon over the main spring may remover unwanted "ping" which I have yet to try! Chris Quote Link to post
Buster321c 1,010
HI Chris . The noise you hear from the hammer is loud as its next to your ear , and i must say that the baloon idea isnt one ive not heard or would try for that matter . You say - Guide rod ( steel), Striker/hammer, Main Spring (standard), Guide washer and finally a spacer washer. The best thing to do , to reduce noise is polish the metal faces that make contact . OR you could look at the possibility of using a PTFE washer to dampen the sound . You would have to turn it down a bit though if you were to go down this road , but as i know its something that rapid shooters do i can say the difference its quite shocking . As the hammer on a rapid is different and does not slide on a `rail` like AA`s do , theres a set for the ends of the spring and each face that comes into contact , it really dows make a significant difference . Just a thought , i`ll see what i can come up with , leave it with me a bit . Buster Quote Link to post

The noise got worse after changing to a standard spring rather that the high power spring it came with (secondhand), the reason for change was heavy cocking, excessive power and air loss. There is a lot of slack on the striker where the spring seats? Possibly a hammer change due! I'm willing to try anything to shut it up as the bunnies do seem to notice :-( Using a plastic washer is one idea I was toying with myself mate. Cheers Buster Chris Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
Hi Craig, I agree it certainly is noisey, I was a couple of meters away and it seemed loud. It also seemed to have erm like an echo to it that I thought was made or amplified by the aircylinder (empty and hollow). Of course the 300 is a totally differing design to the 200 so I don't have a clue. Tony Quote Link to post
