Guest Ditch_Shitter
Ok, Beag's; Just to give ye a guaranteed something at the foot of ye bed to wake up to, mate..... I'm Far from 'expert' with rabbit wires. But fences were my forte when I did used to get to drop a few. I would also point out that this was in pre (for me) internet days. No Woodga's to help me then. Looks of yours, ye've taken a leaf from that Masters book? Good for you Anyway; They may be set a shade low? Hard to say, even from a decent photo. And those are certainly good enough shots. Only I always tended to leave bun less than the full loop to get through. I'd hang mine that tad higher, thus presenting him with a sort of circle with the top cut off (by the fence wire), if ye follow me? That said though, we shouldn't be missing the glaringly obvious, should we? That is: Unless you've checked and re set those wires, I'm guessing they're just about exactly as ye left them, once ye'd set them? Not 'Knocked' at all? As in; No bunnie's have even tried to get past them? Again: I'm no " Wireman ". Just chucking up a bit of personal opinion till someone who may better be able to read the situation happens along. But, at an educated guess? If I'd set them like that and then found them still like that? I'd personally figure just no bun's happened to pass that way last night, mate. Assuming ye've left them there, let's see if ye have anything in the dawn check, about a few hours from now. If not, we'll wait till a Real Deal has a look at it for ye. Best of luck. Ye'll get there Quote Link to post
Mitch 0
Hey mate, Good to see your out there doing it, The only thing i would add (I am by far no means an expert) I have caught a few bunnies here and there and hares. But just read through glenns post or Rabbit snaring and learn how to put the tension in you brass wire, Kinking the wire so the eyelet stays open with the noose impedes the running action of the snare. If your learn how to put your tension in and get more wires out you will soon get the hang of things Keep doing it mate its the best advice i can give. Once you have been pushed in the right direction its just a matter of practice and make sure you enjoy it Quote Link to post
FLY 0
you will get a few belly catches here, think ditch was right they look low,set 1/3rd of noose above the fence wire and you should chin them clean, also a bit shinny. Quote Link to post

FERRETBOY 680
nice one mate :thumbs-up: you done better than me .i had a go last summer, set about 5 snares and didnt get anything ,i set two on a fence line these runs were going under the fence and looked very good.first day i checked them i had nothing ,second day one on the fence line had been knocked and another peg snare had been ripped out by something so i reset the fence snare and set it a little higher about half way and on the 3rd day i checked them i had rabbit fur on the snare i reset.so i gave up and will try again this year.a few weeks later we went lamping in the field were we set the snares and saw a fox ,it was pretty far from us but as soon as it heard the call it went straight to the fence.i wonder who has been nicking our rabbits good hunting rew Quote Link to post
beagles 0
im goin to buy some of them peg snares now good luck for [bANNED TEXT] u try agen Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Ye got one?! F*cking Brilliant!!!!! Oh man, I'm SO chuffed for ye! That's a f*ckin excellent result, mate! Truly! It could have meant the differance in you surviving or starving, see? If your life depended on that one good meal, ye'd not be fit and fed enough to carry on. Always look at it that way. Puts things into perspective. Christ, and some of you guys are ready to jack after a few tries?! Good lord! I was setting wires, hung over the bloody bury mouths (?!) for a couple of Years before anyone told me what a c*** I was! But would I heck as like of jacked! I was That bloody determined to become a " Poacher ", like what I'd read about. Now, Beag's; What's this about " Two were taken ", mate? Two what? Wires? If so, I'd suspect they too had caught, only that the wire came away. Look to how well ye securing them in future then. Or it might have been a fox? In which case fox snares would be the next thing to look to. Because he won't just go away now. Him or you scenario. " Three were shut ... ". Aye. If I'd been a bit more on the ball at the hour when I replied (It was 'late' ) I might have had the nerve to wonder if ye weren't setting the loops a tad big for fences? Sorry, mate. I didn't want to make more of a c*** of myself than I habitually manage. I Thought it, but I didn't want Woodga kicking my arse into next week if I put ye wrong But that's what I suspect anyway. One of our resident experts should find this before long and give ye the proper perspective. Untill they do though, I would venture that I'd set that shade Higher and with the loops Smaller on a fence. It's worked for me in the past that way. But then; I've hit moving targets with a shot gun before now. And I can't shoot with a shot gun to save my life! Monkeys and type writers comes to mind there then! Anyway; Reeeeezulltt! Guest Rabbiteer
Congrats on your first catch, I wish I had been so lucky to catch one first time out. I am a newbie to the snaring game and only a few months ahead of yourself. If I may add a comment to your technique it would be to practice putting tension in your wires so that you do not have to kink them as much. Try and secure the snare from the side and not from above. Stand back from each snare set and look at the run and beats again. I often find when Im up close I set the snare over to one side by accident. I wish you all the best. Which part of the country are you in? Kind Regards, Nik Edited May 11, 2007 by Rabbiteer Quote Link to post
