J Darcy 5,871
Bloody hell!!! i have only ever watched them emerge at first light. Great to get some decent snaps of them. i once found a SH with wings fused even though it had fully emerged. I took it home and seperated its wings carefully with a craft knife. After sitting on my hands for a while it took off with that amazing flight they have. If i had a scanner here i would put some pics up i have of them emerging. I used to study them in the garden pond when they were larve. Awesome creatures.... top pics...
FPO 0
Had to put a comment on! Firstly wonderful pictures, last time I saw this happen was 15 years back when we had a lovely natural pond in family home. used to collect the empty cases off the reeds most years. However hen I was ten I had to do a nature project for school so took some of these cases in and talked about the life cycle of the dragon fly ( mostly gleaned from the Ladybird books!) Teacher actually told me I was talking cobblers about them living under water for 2 years! "stupid girl of course a winged creature doesnt swim under water"! Had to take the lady bird book in to school to prove it! she didnt ever apologies though! And they wonder why education is going down the pan
