Guest Scuba1
Where I live, there is no snaring that I know of being done and hence there are no materials to make them and no one sells them. In part, this is probably due to the terrain, as it is mostly rock and it is a bit of a bother getting a snare set up. Here on the vineyard I have used DIY fence snares but wanted to move a bit further afield. I have to make the sanres out of copper wire as I have not found any brass wire in te right strength. Eyelets...... yea right: I make them out of 2.5mm blind rivets by grinding the end shorter and opening them up with a DIY punch. Spotting the runs of the rabbits is another theme all together, as I said it is mostly rock ground here and no grass to speak of,just shrubs and cactus. I am going to make a dozen or so snares and see how it goes. There are rabbits enough around, it is just a matter of showing them the way to the pot Here are some pics of my efforts so far. Well there are several reasons that I don´t ask. One it is a load of hassle to shipt hings out here and the Spanish post is not very efficient ( trustworthy ). Second : those little problems that one has to overcome are half the fun . ATB Michael Quote Link to post

Mitch 0
I would be very interested to see how you go, get us some photos of setting the snares ect.... I snare on similar ground and it can be very hard thats for sure. But the more rabbits there are the more chance you have of catching one, thats what i like to remember. But it is great catching them in the snares, remarkable how well they work for such a simple bit of kit good luck mate Quote Link to post
Guest Scuba1
I have made up a dozen snares and put them out at just before sundown ......... wait and see. One of my biggest problem is the temps here . You see the runs of the rabbits but they could be years old even the droppings dry out in a matter of minutes and a re hard a pebbles in a very short time. As it only rains about 6 days a year the old tracks ( runs ) can stay for ages undisturbed. I can track them down allright when I am under way with the rifle as I more or less know the routes that they take and can stalk them, but knowing their exact path is a whole different ball game. Guest Scuba1
Making the snare itself is the least of my problems. The problem is how to present it in this kind o terrain. Have to thinks outside the box here a bit ATB Michael Quote Link to post
