pegandgun 51
ive had a lot to do with air rifles over the years and tried both calibres over a long period and i think the .177 is a better calibre than the .22.It shoots much flatter and will kill cleanly at a greater distance. My lad regularly shoots fifty or more rabbits in a day with his hw77 and thats in .177 calibre, but its all about opinions at the end of the day :yes:My lads on the left of the picture and my brothers lad is on the right Quote Link to post

mad al 146
Well, just to confuse the issue, I use both. Both will kill what you intend shooting for definite with head shots and surely this is what we should be aiming at. I totally agree with the .177 killing cleaner, travelling faster, it does make a difference..........Al Quote Link to post
Guest Scuba1
I find a .22 at 300+ m/ sec does more damage then a .177. I go out a lot at night and find a .177 a bit small to fiddle with ( age ) . Having said that I don´t know the limits of the air rifles that you have in the UK but I think 300+ m/sec needs an FAC unlike here. Another thing is, that in the terrain where I get my rabbits, there are a load of shrubs and cactus so there is no real need for any long shots unless one sits atop of a high rock and shoots down and then the trajectory is about as flat as that of a .177. tote 843
The two rifles i've got are both .22 calibre but that's not through choice Saying that I do kill quite a few rabbits with them If i'd had the chance to choose which calibre i'd opt for a .177,reasons being flatter trajectory, faster [800+fps] and the pellet drops less after 30 yards compared to a .22.
