secretagentmole 1,701
Well I decided to aid my recuperation by having a couple of hours down the woods last night, texted the permission holder to check all was well and hey ho into the undergrowth! Seeing as I was only going to be out for a couple of hours I packed light, hypo recovery gear, phone, something to put catch in, gun , pellets and gun bag. Idiot forgot camera. Got down at 3:30pm, the evening sun was glinting through the branches as I got into the set up position, loaded the magazines, loaded the gun, got my gloves on and started prowling. None on the edges of the permission, so started looking into the middle, there at 50 metres were a whole flock of pigeons, roosting in the evening sun, eyes closed, ready for some high speed sleeping tablets (a la Crosman). Got lined up, remembered the inclination, adjusted accordingly, lined up click, thwack. matey bird on th end never woke up, but his bleeding mates did! Off like bats out of the proverbial! Anyway, I go over and pick up pigeon, head shot, little blood trickling from beak, nice, tasty! So took a photo (on phone so sorry the image is not up to usual standards). Anyway decided to get some more use from me Aigles and prowled round again, the flock circled the permission warily, Idiot stood on an old branch so flock flocked off! Bum, flip, floogle, then I saw another problem, he still has not caught that bleeding Harris Hawk and it was looking at me, in an evil way, that is when you become very concious of receeding hairlines, must get a hat! The sun was now just on the edge of the world and the red light was flooding the sky, when I saw a solo pigeon in silhouette against the sky, 30 metres (dead on zero, adjust aim for inclination, fire, thwack, head shot, pigeon gone! I shot it, it fell, so now we play the game of hunt the corpse in the leaves! Managed to find it and it was bigger than my first but by the time I got to the keep bag the light had just about gone, so I bunged it in the bag and went home! So two shot though only photos of one. I am getting to enjoy this roost shooting mullarkey! http:// Edited January 15, 2012 by secretagentmole Quote Link to post

zini 1,939
Nice one Mole, sounds like you had a good shoot. A 50 metre (54.6 yard) pigeon in the head is one hell of a shot mate, well done top marks. Nice photo too. Si. Quote Link to post
