Adam_Chuck 256
i think you have realy got to think is this dog going be good enough for you to put alot of training time into them i think no matter what you think the dog "might" turn out like, you should put all the effort you can into each and every dog to get the very best out of them that goes for obedience and hunting imo
Millet 4,497
i missed this one...I expect more or less the same out of my dog's as you Freelance..the 4 main point's in training i really concentrate on are 1st retrieving 2nd recall 3rd stock breaking 4th jumping..all the other finer point's hopefully fall into place when out in the field/motor hunting..well they have upto now.. ..on the cat subject i have never broke a dog to cat's simply because i detest feral's and if they is any chance of my dog nailing someone's pet they are kept on a lead.. robwelsh 354
Ye four key ingredients to a good working dog..recall,stock break, retrieve and jumping..recall being the number one, the other three when ever, younger the better for stock breaking mind lol cats, f**k cats..you only ever see them in the streets, an its never off the lead in the streets, a load of nasty roads an Dick edd drivers. Not worth the risk..although my bitch does sit and lie..but doesn't sit on hard ground..she sits, then lies half the time..aslong as she knows I'm boss who cares haha good thread
beast 1,884
i work on recall and retrieve from day one i think you can almost get a young pup to think that doing those things is never an option, its just so instilled in them. i enjoy teaching dogs stuff, i feel you never get the best out of a dog unless you do some degree of training but you need a balance, some border collie crosses for example can lose their initiative if you are too intense. i expect a pup to know come, fetch, sit, stay, down, and to be calm in the car or when left kenneled, to be housebroken, good on the lead and to be respectful to cats sheep and poultry by about 3-4 months although i dont expect it to be 100% excellent
