Guest vin
Hello all Started out early this morning for 1st session on a bit of permission quite local..went with a mate and his young lad who is only 11 but mad keen for it.. He loves getting stuck in with the netting up and ferret handling..My mate has got him trained up like a little pro ferreter. We got to 1st set and dropped a ferret in 1st one of the day out in about 1 min and it rolled the net and was up and away over the field with my dog in hot pursuit ! she turned it halfway across the hedge but it managed to duck her and made through a hole in the sheep netting. I'm glad I didnt put that net on...LOL... niether did the young fella...hehee. We had another bolt a minute or 2 later so we upped nets and moved on. we moved onto the next burrow the dogs were marking and netted up..we had 2 out of that one with no messing. So we moved onto a little wood that we always have a few out of..The dogs were giving good strong marks and we managed to pull a few more out of next set...At the moment we started pulling nets off a rabbit ejected and ran onto a set about 100 yards away...So we though sod it we're having him..fully expecting a little dig whilst we were netting up..But as asoon as ferret went in 1 bolted at other end..no way was he the one the dogs had chased..so we waited .. 5 mins and bang ! another massive bolt it came upwards in the air as it bolted like it was heading for the heavens a little bit too early.. Ferret still wanted to go back in and it managed to bolt the last one after a little bit of running about. We moved on to a little 5 hole set under a tree log..very awkward holes to net..but had one out straight away bit then ferret had a little battle with the remander..we could hear them rolling about and going for it..after about 5 mins we put the locator on and had to dig about 2 foot to grab ferret and dead bunny. very easy dig. We had little break for a coffee did a couple more sets before calling it a day. We ended on 15 and missed 1 . My mate was happy because it was 1st time he had seen my ferrets working because he bred them and he had the mother in his box today so it was good for his young lad to see the little kits he played with doing the job they were bred for. a couple of the bunnies had early signs of MIXY which is quite unusual for the place we were at,especially at this time of year. Great weather today..can't ask for more really..A very enjoyable day. Quote Link to post
