jf1970 328
cheers lads, yeah bloody brilliant hunting without daft rules. yep pal, rabies jab then blood test few weeks later then passport issued 6 months later, cost 150 quid but worth it. then its just tapeworm jab 5 days or less before coming back. Whole process is proper smooth, they don't even check the dog on the way out and its a quick scan of the microchip on way back in and thats it, sorted! sounds easy enough, how long does the passport last? I think you need a rabies jab every 3 years and the normal annual boosters and that's it, if they're kept up the passport lasts the lifetime of the dog
Ideation 8,217
Very much enjoyed that read mate. It's a great part of the world and some awesome game. When i lived in slovakia (polish border - high tatras) the deer population was mental. Huge numbers, everywhere. Lots of fox, the odd hare, no bunnies, some boar, a few bears and wolves and some mountain goats. When you out there next with the dog and which part ish? I might be in Poland in the summer / september myself (Missus is part polish).

I'll be there with the dog for the whole of August and September while the uni is off, so it'll be sun bathing for the first month and hunting for the second month, Where abouts are you going? PM me if you want? PS. bears???? you're feckin jesting?????

M yeah it was good pal, ideally it would have been good to get out every day for a couple of hours and I'm sure we'd have caught more, but what with Christmas parties/new year/daughters birthday/my loose stools, it wasn't possible on this trip. Still quality though, seriously can't wait for next time!!!

Actually felt myself saying "Go on lass" on the first hare.... Sounds like a great wee place for you to test the dog mate......lucky man... Oh and by the way you had a fox caller with you all the time mate, infact you had 2.........there called your hands..

Oh and by the way you had a fox caller with you all the time mate, infact you had 2.........there called your hands.. It's class lab, when you're out in the sticks it's just proper deserted. It's quite hard to adjust when you're used to the UK where the majority of the time you're not that far from roads/houses. You really do feel like there's noone for miles around............which could be a slight disadvantage if a bear rips your legs off  The run on the first hare was class, she did me proud even though she didn't catch. The few runs that I had brought it home (to me!) how tragic it is that in this country you're not allowed to chase hares with a dog and yet something that's capable of running like that would have been flattened within seconds if I'd have had a gun. They should make every anti in the country go out with someone to see a dog chase a hare, and then go out with someone with a gun and see one get shot.....and then get the stupid twat to explain how that can possibly be better! All of those hares were in perfect condition, proper healthy specimens.....and yet a decent shooter would have killed the lot, as it stands all but one of them are now still out there! Yeah good point I need to learn how to do that Edited January 9, 2012 by rob190364

Also have various friends (and missus family) dotted about Poland. I don't have any firm plans yet, but have time around then and will be on the mainland in that kind of area, and would be quite up for meeting up and having a bit of sport. As for bears - 100% honest mate. Black ones - they came to raid the bins, but occaisionally we would come on them up in the mountains when we were out picking bluberries, or other fruit, or mushrooms. Luckily we had a noisy little mountain cur with us usually.

We'll have a system, my dog can flush the boar, you dive on its back and slit its throat, I'll film from up a nearby tree just so I can get the correct camera angle, we'll get some ace clips! I should have properly sussed the area by then aswell so we should get a fair amount of sport with a bit of luck
