Big dog fox shot whilst asleep

Recommended Posts

Out with a mate last night on a patch where the pheasant shooting is intense .We tried calling a vixen that was calling in some scrub land but she either slunk off or came in undetected then scarpered as we never saw her .Over the road, the lamper picked up a fox immediately in the red filter and only 50 yds but i was too slow on sticks and it wasnt hanging around too long .We followed the departing fox over a brow with a veiw to taking a long shot on the white light but as soon as the light hit it he was gone and wasnt stopping for that either .Back along the river on the red filter again ,the lamper froze with the beam on a shape in the grass about 90yds infront .We both know the ground and knew this wasnt part of it normally so i had a look through the scope to reveal a fox curled up apparently fast asleep .The red filter didnt help here as anyone who uses one will know .You really need eyes for an id.Anyway i was certain it was a fox by the ears and shot it off sticks .A big dog fox maybe knackered from the nights rutting ,been there done that, lol.

I was just about to say well done....................Then I saw your tally, jammy b***ard lol.

Seriously though, that's cracking stuff, and you only get out of this game what you put in . And there's often something interesting and unusual turns up, like the sleeping Fox. Good read
