Westy76 546
Hi all Haven't posted in her for a while and didn't think I was going to after tues night. I got 3 of this years kits who Ive been getting to know with the dogs and things are going well(I think)just waiting to buy some collars to complete my little set up before I go out with them on a few small sets I've been saving for them. Well that was never gonna happen when I woke up on Wednesday morning let the dogs out to find the bottom hutch door had been pushed in and no ferts!!! Shit I thought as I got my lamp out to franticlly search for them but realistically I live in the middle of nowhere with fields all round me so thought they were gone for good or charlie took them when he broke into the hutch Well I phoned tyla during the day to tell him what happened and to see if I could borrow a trap to see if I could get one or two who might come back, good fella he is sorted them out so after work I picked them up thinking I wouldn't see them but worth a go as my daughter was gutted when I told her they'd gone. So trap picked up, of home I go to set up the traps that I think will be emptier than my wallet after Xmas still the next day but as I pull in to the yard it was like a scene from homeward bound my big hob come bounding out to see me and run up my leg followed by one of the jills who was equally grateful to see me,so 2 back I was over the moon as I shut them in there spare hutch I heard rustling by the stables which are rat infested and full of junk, would I be really lucky and this is the third one?? I hate rats with a passion and the thought of me armed only with a torch calling Roland and his pals out made me feel sick but thankfully out she came(reluctantly) when I called her to give me a nip when I picked her up. Checked them all over and gave them a good bowl full of grub totally amazed I got them all back. Thanks to blackstaff who insisted I made a noise when I feed them just in case I lost one while working really helped and Tyla for the traps. Happy Xmas all and hope you all get a bit in while off. Matt Ps would love to know what they got up to?? Edited December 15, 2011 by Westy76 Quote Link to post
max abell 198
Glad you got them all back mate what do you think it was that pushed the door in ?? could it have been a fox or badger coz whatever did it will proberly come back for another try when it gets really cold wouldn't want you to loose your ferts to a fox or the likes Quote Link to post
Westy76 546
Cheers mate, pretty sure it was a fox as the dogs went nuts in the night and we've got a couple of bigguns cruising about but not for long. I've put them in the spare hutch up high til the weekend while I fox proof the hutch but I'm hoping to build a ferret court whilst I've got some time off at Xmas so that'll stop any other attempts by Charlie. Just utterly amazed they came back honestly thought they'd be off if not eaten, does this normally happen after the initial freedom bid??? Quote Link to post

I think it often depends if they have been worked much or not. Young kits tend to hang about, wheras i think if i dropped my workers down (like you i live surrounded by countryside) i think they would be off at speed scenting for bunnies. Although i guess it's also down to the individual ferret. Quote Link to post
Westy76 546
These haven't seen a set yet but I looked everywhere for them,3 albinos I thought I'd have seen one but that hob was over to me in a flash big jess lol The little Jill was a different story but there's buries all round me in the fields so I guess I'm lucky there young and unworked.
