Dawn B 212
YES Kennel cough can kill dogs! It can develop into Pneumonia especially in young puppies and old dogs, usually though the dogs are ok in themselves and get over it fairly quickly. You should keep your dog away from others untill well after its stopped coughing and finish the course of tabs. Best of luck. Dawn. Quote Link to post
Guest world.hunters
cheers although i do not think my gsd has it or had it etc i have already made the decision to keep them seperated until pup has got over this and a few weeks after the first set of jabs that the pup will have on saturday Quote Link to post
Dawn B 212
Its not worth seperating your own dogs mate. it can be spread on clothes etc.. its an airborne virus. There is a fair chance your other dog wont get it anyway, i have had one with it and not the others, and 3 with it and not the other! Its really indescriminate. Dawn. Quote Link to post

blackpack 70
my 5 dogs had it, gave them childs cough medicine, took 4 weeks to clear then the dogs seemed to have no energy for weeks later, (beagles knows how my dogs caught this) Quote Link to post
pilgrim1982 0
My dogs had it, it wasn't the most pleasant experience particularly when they are in the house coughing all night. Its a nasty rasping type cough as well. The vet said not to give them cough medicine as this can slow their recovery by not letting them clear their lungs as well. He just gave me some antibiotics which initially helped alot but after i stopped giving them the antibiotics the cough came back and took about a week for it to clear up. The still seemed active with the cough and would still run around even if they ended up coughing though i tried to restrict their activities. The antibiotics are just to prevent pneumonea and anything more serious setting in. Quote Link to post
Guest world.hunters
well from what i have read up on the tinternet my dog must only have a mild case of it as they can be coughing every few minutes and my pup is coughing more or less every hour or so. Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
get a bottle of kids cough mixture and a bottle of tcp poure half the cough mixture out and and fil up with tcp ... give a table spoon in the morning and one in the night .... also if you get big red spanish onions and cut them in half and hang them in the dogs kennel it will help eradicate the spores and speed up the healing process ...........
