Parabuteos lad 878
Ive got a brittany and hes three now. Was originally bought for falconry and was good on whistle and hand comands. But then he stopped and now he wont listen when outdoors but is fine on whistle indoors and in garden. So im looking to pay for dog training to finnish him off and was wondering if he is now too old to learn any different? As i dont wanna pay and the dog not learn. Alternatively, is anyone in/near liverpool willing to help one on one in exchange for some days out with my goshawk? (dont ask you dont get, lol) Also, if there is any 'q's where there should be 'a's i apologise as im on my phone... Quote Link to post

Shamo 319
The period in a dogs life, which has the most influence, is between 12 weeks to 18 Months. If your Brittany was trained up and working fine with Birds of Prey and sharp on whistle and hand commands, then it won't be too old for a refresher course. A Gundog has all it's training in place when you start working it, then it gets the experience to 'round it off' by working under a Gun or Bird. Every now and then it should be part of your regime to nip problems which arise in the bud, by way of going through all the basics again. Keeps the dog in it's place and satisfies you it is on target. In my opinion it won't be a waste of time, effort and, if needs be, money to get your Brittany back to how you want it. Providing it's training was correct and completed.........if not, may take a while, but if from proper 'working blood' you have the instincts to go with too. Quote Link to post
