bossman999 9
Well i was up at 4 am this morning after being very kindly invited by a friend to go and see if he could bag a red, well not being one to turn down such a opportunity i was excited to say the least, Well 5 am came and my friend pulled up so off we set, after a anxious hour drive which seemed to take forever we arrived at our destination, It was still a little misty and not quite light so a few mins were spent getting everything ready . As the sun started to break through the clouds we set off, A beautiful morning it was, we quietly made our way to where my friend thought they would be , The sound of pheasants awakening and leaving the roost was interrupting the silence of early morning, As we approached a field above a pheasant pen i was told to stop , as there in the top corner was a red hind coming through the hedge , my heart began to pound as another hind followed , Then a large stag made his way through only to be followed by another 2 hinds and another stag , What sight to behold 6 red deer silhouetted against the low mist still leaving the wood, On closer inspection it was seen that all 6 were actually in side the pheasant pen and a slight missed placed shot could result in one fleeing either into the heavy laden woodland or crashing into the pen netting, So we proceeded quietly and cautiously up the hedge line, Then again as our eyes were fixed on the top hedge line a Yearling priket appeared , this time heading towards the middle of the field ,He was limping badly so it was decided to take him out if he presented himself,I stood motionless as my friend set up his sticks, He came within about 140 yrds ,And as if on cue stood broadside, Crack followed by thud ,A well placed shot he staggered for a few seconds and dropped, We approached the motionless beast , A clean kill , Well my heart was racing by now , He was fine young animal but the right thing had been done. we decided to take a look in the field above where he had came from , so we approached the gate , nothing was to be seen , we entered the field and there coming through the hedgerow at the top was a wonderful hind, elegantly walking towards us, Again i stood motionless as my friend set up his sticks after a few seconds she turned and stood sniffing the morning air , She was about 120 yrds out then again Crack followed by thud , she ran about 20 yrds and dropped ,again a clinical shot when we reached her it was then i saw what a wonderful hind she was in great condition, well my heart is still racing now, what a wonderful morning was had and many many thanks to my friend , And if that wasn't enough i have a invite to go again.
