firepower 68
I went out tonight with the intention of putting holes in two particular foxes pelts. On getting to the first farm there were rabbits everywhere. The .17hmr was firmly locked in the cabinet miles away so the .223 had to suffice. Normally I sell rabbits on but as I needed bait the damage was going to be acceptable. The first field yielded twelve rabbits. On shooting the final one I spotted a pair of rather bright eyes not fifty yards away. He didn't even seem to have heard the shot. I lined him up just to see him slip away behind the hedge to our left. The only way to see him now was to pull to the other side of the field. Five minutes and leaving the last shattered rabbit where it was I had got into position. Ready, steady on the wing mirror bag and thumb on the safety. Eyes here then there then gone. Over half an hour with Reynard playing peep oh. Deciding not to take an unsure shot and leave a possibly educated fox I retreated to the second farm. A free range egg producer with a pig far annexe. Within seconds of pulling up the bright eyes of the red furred chicken killer popped into sight. Yep, sat right in between the pigs, as nice as you like. Hide and seek for an hour with the only clear shot having a road as a backstop. Time to call it a night. In the lanes leading to my house there are a few fields that I lamp for fun. Sat there like a bloody police dog.....a fox cub Has any one else seen them this late in the year ? Quote Link to post
