I've switched from removing them to leaving them. No problems (SO-FAR) I could see a torn dew claw as being a real bloody mess. But everything has been fine. If you remove them, you only have to worry about keeping the dogs eyes clean. Just another thing to do after a hunt. So, if the ground you hunt is rough or rocky. I'd remove them for sure.
