B.P.R 2,798
i know this should be in the gundog section but this is the most commonly used section on here for dogmen so posting it here. ive got a lab x ive had for about 18months now. cracking dog, superb in the house and never had any issues. moved house just under 3 weeks ago and all was ok. the pup is caged at the minute due to her leg so the lab is always with here(not caged). yesterday the missus made a lasagne and sat it on the worktop for when i finished work along with the dogs dry food in their bowls ready to be mixed when i came home also. she went the shop and was gone about an hour, came in and all was ok, nothing out of place although the lab was acting shady. she checked for shit and piss in the house- none, NO PROBLEM, until she decided later on to have a bit of lasagne. ALL GONE. the dish hadnt moved and this was a bloody huge lasagne, the dried dog food was gone but none of the dishes and bowls had moved. the lab must have jumped onto the worktops, finished the lasagne and the dog food and got off leaving no trace! B**TARD. today she went a kids group, moved all traces of food, anything edible and anything that might interest the lab. came back and bin was ripped to shreds with any bits of food ie, toast from the baby-eaten. the mop bucket tipped over everywhere and the pups bed was soaking wet from the bucket. she made a point of putting any food in the outisde bin so the dog couldnt smell it. i dont know why shes being a t*at, its totally out of character and shes been in this house for almost 3 weeks now any the problem only started yesterday. any ideas? trying not to be harsh on her but the fat git has eaten about 5 days worth of food in less than 24 hours and is doing my head in. shes also put on weight so trying to slim her down and this isnt helping. do i starve her due to the amount of food shes eaten or feed her extra small portions? i swear if she eats 1 bit of extra food she puts on about 5 kilo. never known a dog like her yet she gets the legs run off her most days. skycat 6,174
Stress moving house can manifest weeks, months later, coupled with stress of owners with injured dog, house move etc etc. PLUS coming out of season making bitch want to 'stock up' in case of pregnancy: very common to find bitches eating all sorts at this stage of their cycle. Don't get angry: cage bitch, act normal, de-stress yourselves, force yourselves to act happy: it really works! And will help to de-stress you too. Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
Thats damn good advice from Skycat. One more thin I would do, one that I used myself when I moved house, is that i never allowed the dogs to enter the house before me, I always 'invited' them in. Made them wait everytime at the door, walked in myself and then beconed them in. Seen this method used by Ceasar Milan a few years back, it re-affirmes to the dog that it is 'your' house and they are invited in and should behave in the right manner. It worked for me when we moved and ever after. Best of luck. Quote Link to post
