foxing on little permissions last night. only one but more to come

Recommended Posts

as my biggest shoot is on the Worcestershire / Herefordshire borders. which isn't to far away about 10 miles.

i have been sticking local to home over the last couple of outings on some smaller farms. on the north side of worcester. one is only 40 acres one is 130 acres. but there close to each other.

so last night my and my old man got the 17 fireball out the gun cabinet. and some 20 grain vmax home loads. and set off with the 170 light force lamp in our 4x4.

now this 1 st little 40 acres is a lovely place its out the way. and lead's down to the river salwarpe which looks more like a brook then a river.

down this patch of water. there are some very thick brambles, and a little bit of gorse wood. and fox runs under the fences to the fields everywhere.

i got this permission through my main shoot. because the farmers son keeps some sheep on this woman's land. and she also wants the foxes shot because they keep crapping on her patio area around her house !. now i have been round this place in the day looking at the safest areas to call foxes into because the ground is pretty flat in places.

but go's away steeper down to the water where the gorse and brambles are. i rang to say i would be popping over. as she lives alone and i don't want her getting worried seeing a lamp. when i haven't told her I would be around.

she said she has seen 3 foxes about in the day. so i new one or two could be on the cards. i set up on top of the 4x4 so i could see more ground,

and get a safer shot. got the vixen caller going. and in 10 mins two foxes where bolting out of the rough ground.

into the field we where in. :boogy: one on the right was sat there watching me'' well the other was making its way round to my left. ideally i wanted to shoot the one on the left 1 st. as there was good chance. the other would still be sat there. but the one to my left was getting close to next doors fields by now

so i didn't feel safe shooting that way. and took the one sitting down through the front of the chest. he dropped in a instant to the 20 vmax the 17 is great. it offers

outstanding accuracy. its a nice flat shooter with very little noise.

and when i went over to pick the fox up he had no exit wound on him. just a body full of pulp. so all the ftlb from that round had stayed inside his body.

which on flattish ground is perfect. and makes it far safer.

from there we went to the 130 acre place. where we have had good numbers from there. a couple of nights with 2 foxes shot and one night i had 3 off there.

last night we see 4 on this patch of ground. but the flat ground makes it very hard at times as your always looking for that safe shot. didnt get chance of one though on this permission last night.

so only one for the night. but it was nice to be out for a couple of hour's. and it just go's to show you don't need 1000's of acres to have a good evening.

and this thread is to remind people.

if you have some little permission don't be put off from trying them out. your be surprised what is about
