MissRhianL 70
What benefits are added if your bring a bird of prey into your hunting team? Quote Link to post
Millet 4,497
They is no added benefit really..if you have dog's that will chase and kill they will compete with the hawk and probably piss the hawk of if they dont kill it..it's rather one or the other for me..bird's for daytime dog's for night time.. MissRhianL 70
My partner read a book before about how a spaniel, ferret an harris hawk work together. Just wanted to see if ppl have any opinions on using a hawk wit their dog? Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,217
Never really done it myself, but in the future i plan to get a BOP to work over a spaniel, rather than shooting over it. Always had spaniels for years, but the shooting ended up getting boring, and it was the hunting with the dog that i really enjoyed. Spaniel and bird sounds ideal. Quote Link to post
Millet 4,497
Spaniel's/pointers and other dog's work well with hawk's and ferret's if all are trained correctly..but a stuborn lurcher or stuborn terrier is a no no where hawk's are concerned. Quote Link to post

I have been out with spaniel's with harris's and they can be a good team aslong as the dog can be held back and not hunt to far infront. Quote Link to post

I know 100% where you are coming from as my enthusiasm about the birds is no where near what it used to be, I like to get out and do some different field sports these days for a break . spaniels and Hawks go well together! sounds like you're on the button with your spaniels so I'm sure you would form a perfect Hunting partnership between you, dog and hawk .... arcticgun 4,548
I use a saluki to flush game for my harris , they do well together and he lets her share kills, I honestly thought it would be a mare to get em working together but he seems to have an inbuilt respect for her, even if he catches the quarry he will back off and let he oon it, which hew ould never do for another dog, I also use my terrier with her as well, both put plenty of game in front of her, She also very good at spotting certain game the dogs like running in fact she twice as good as a pair of bino's lol its still early doors and could well go pare shaped yet though Quote Link to post
