Tom n Sky 16
I have a beddy / grey x whippet bitch, she is my first lurcher and is a late starter at 20 month old. Better late than early though eh ! Im not new to ferreting but my 3 jills are last years kits and i like to start them after a year old. As with the dog, i think they need to mature. So yesterday was our first outing of the season. I went up onto the fell with my new team, it wasn't a bad evening, although the fog decided to drop in and caused some visability problems. I got some nets set out and left some holes open. Quite quickly my jills flushed out 2 bunnies, one went back down a hole and got back netted, the other took off with sky in hot persuit............it got away down another burry, just ! We moved onto another set, again netting some and leaving some exposed. The ferrets got to work and flushed another bunny, sky new it was coming to that hole and set off before it popped out. After a decent run with a few twists and turns, she nailed it. Eventually retrieving. Sky got another run but slipped at full pelt doing 4 or 5 somersaults We got our 3rd and final bunny in one of the nets and decided to call it a night because of the fog. I went out tonight with the lamp, we only lamped to small fields. She had 5 runs and got 4 of them. Pretty good runs at that, we had a great night. The only trouble i have with her is the retrieving. She really takes her time and them will drop them 10 metres or so away etc. I do training with her and she has good days when she will bring dummies back, straight away to hand without asking. Then other times she just dicks about, mostly the latter . She is capable of doing it, but just doesnt like to all the time. Very frustrating I will get some pics up of her as soon as i can figure out how to lower the resolution of the pics to upload them ! Quote Link to post
