bigbulls 26
Stock fencing has been my main source of income for the past several years, Iv put up most styles and types of fences but last week got a call to do something quite new to me. Badger fencing is a series of low close strands of plain wire running off a mains electric fencing unit, the wires are at set spacings and it has one of the strands that is not on post insulators and runs tight to the ground all the way round the fence line and serves as the earth. The chap wanting the fencing is an Alpaca farmer who is bordered by a farm on TB movement restrictions after testing positive and loosing some fine heifers that were in calf. There is a Brock set within sight up on a sand borough that has runs right down the borough and over his boundary hedges, the runs have plenty of Brock hair in them and are well in use. Apparently the Alpaca is a prolific carrier of TB but there is no mandatory test for them because they don't have a reaction test that works on them enough to give conclusive results. It will be interesting to see if the fencing works as intended and It might be that I end up doing a bit of it around this Brock ridden county, cant see many farmers paying out the money though as its not a cheap solution compared to other control methods, perhaps there will be grants for it if its proven affective ??? Waz 4,304
The alpacas go for a hell of a lot of money, lot of folk getting set up with them, which will probably mean the money drops out.
