Just getting the bug back after a 20+ year absence so last time I done anything was when I was a teen.

To cut a long story short Ive been looking for pup for a few month but ended up with 2 sisters , Ive had them about a week now so settled in they are 10 weeks old so just doing basic training in the house sit stay etc. Question is is it easier to do training with each dog seperate or is it going to be better to try and do it when they are together. I know it might sound an easy question but ive always had either 1 dog or 2 dogs at different ages so never been in this situation before. Half my head is saying do it seperate but then when they are out and about when they are allowed and need to put training into practise they will be together so do it together.

Couple of pics but poor quality 1st one seems alot quicker to learn and is 14" tts at 10 weeks the second one is alot more stubben and braver and harder to get to do anything and is 16" tts at 10 weeks

Any advice or help on training 2 pups at same time would be much apprieciated

Cheers Lee

I would say train separately to start with so they learn what they are required to do without any distractions and then, when they are older, train them how to work together.

(Just my thoughts, I've never actually been in this position myself)

Defo' train alone.....................but you can walk and socialise them together no problem and they will pick things up along the way anyway.....

i took on a couple pups years ago, trained them seperately although as said walking and socialising they were joined at the hip the trouble is i did always favour one over the other and to be honest i really bit off more than i could chew but hey we live and learn good luck with the pair of them

About the only thing you should do with two pups together is 'sit' for their food. Anything else can result in chaos unless you are very experienced, and even then, trying to train a recall with two pups who will be playing with each other and having more fun together than you could ever give them............well, figure it out!

You are already noticing a difference between their temperaments, and you should be training each pup differently. For example, the easy pup, who is obviously less dominant, comes when you call, while the other is doing its own thing in the distance. What would you do next? Shout at the stubborn pup? No, because that will upset the more timid pup who has done the right thing and come to you when you called her. See what I mean?

So yes, let them play together, sleep together, but watch when feeding together in case the more timid pup gets pushed off her food. You may have to feed separately even at this age if you don't want the timid pup to become mentally bullied and overshadowed by the other. And definitely do not train together. Even when taking out on first walks, do it separately or you'll find them over reliant on each other, forming a mini pack with you as a hanger on of no consequence if you're not careful.

Two pups can be a minefield for experienced trainers, and no professional trainer would ever attempt to train two at once. With less experience, you could end up in the brown stuff, big time!

my brother has just brought 2 pups up one is now 15 month old and the other is nearly 14 month old... he just walked and fed them as normal and didn't do anything with them apart from break them in with cattle and sheep and get them jumping.. they wouldn't chase a ball or a dummy so didn't bother trying to learn them to retrieve...at about 12 month old he showed them there first rabbits in the day and letting them get there instinct on chasing rabbits.. and at 13 month old when he thought the bitch was ready so he took her lamping and she done brilliant, jumped great, retrieved straight to hand and didn't hunti up when she missed a rabbit, she was even walking off the slip straight to heel.

first night out she bagged half these..she's the bitch on the right

then he had his other pup he wasn't quite mature to run, with being a month behind the bitch and bitches maturing quicker he wasn't that fussed.. He didn't rush him into anything and let him come along, then he thought he was ready last weekend.. he was just over 13 month old on his first night and he caught 10 of these, and retrieved to hand and was jumping and obedient.

first night out, he's the dog on the right
