Out today

Recommended Posts

Gave me brother a hand on the shoot today feeding around the estate and chucked the terrier in to have a little look around. Seemed to be checking everywhere but to no avail until we found some holes that didnt look to promising but the bitch wanted in. She went in and heard alot of bumping and digging on then she started baying but not very strongly so i guessed she wasnt quite up to the quarry. Next thing i noticed an awful lot of wasps around...must be feeding on the ivy above us i thought.....still more come....then i noticed them all buzzing around the stump of a tree in the hedge. I tried for a mark and got one of 0.9....a meter from the wasp nest :icon_eek: SHIT.

Cleared as much undergrowth and over hanging tree limbs so i could actually get into the bank/hedge and started to dig even though i was still not convinced she was right up to the quarry. The ground is still like iron and this area is literally just flint and every bang on the ground pissed these wasps off even more. Anyway chipping away for what seemed like for ever getting stung left right and centre and realised i hadnt heard anything under ground for a while, even though i still had the same mark. I was getting pretty worried the nest was in the tubes or something so i thought f**k th wasps and went for it with the shovel. Then i heard the beeping (the annyoing beeping that some people moan about!!) slow down.....THEY HAD MOVED!! Any other time and i would have been pissed right off but considering today the air was thick with stinging devils and i hadnt heard much for a while, i was so pleased. Tried for a mark and heard my brother yelling , he had seen the quarry trying to dig through a tight tube which ran parrallel to one of the entrance holes. We let it go past and then blocked it with the round mouth and a moment later my bitch was slowly squeezing through so with a bit of help i got her out, tidyed up best we could and broke the land speed record getting away from the cloud of wasps.

Not a very good result but to be honest i was just glad to have to terrier out and to be away from the spot. It was a pretty tight spot as the terrier rubbed a fair load of fur off her legs and is scratched to buggery from the flint. A few weeks night time walking i think as she looks pretty shitty!

Anyone else get out this weekend? All the best
