bit of advise please

Recommended Posts

as some of you may have read i had a bit of a worry with finding my bitch pup tied with a stray mongrel, i took her to the vets for the jab,and was given an appointment to go back for a scan to check that all was well. any way the first jab didnt work for one reason or another and the vet offered to re-jab for free. now this time it has worked and my bitch has expelled all the shite that you would expect from a misscarage and slowly looking better in herself. but what i would like to know is how long would you leave it before she started exercising again and how much how often ? any advice would be a great help as ive never been in this situation before. thanks mart

How far in whelp was she when the vet aborted the litter? Even if she wasn't far gone, her hormones will be all over the place. You may find that she behaves a bit oddly: I've never used this jab as I've heard unfavourable reports about it, but I understood that you had to have the bitch jabbed within 48 hours. Obviously this was not the case: and I would imagine it must have been pretty traumatic for the bitch to end a pregnancy suddenly: she must have been a few weeks in to the pregnancy for pups to show up on a scan: at least 3 weeks I guess.

Physically her body needs to adjust to losing the pups, and it may take a while for her hormones to settle down again. Mentally she may shrug it off with no outward signs, but either way, I'd take things easy with her for a few weeks: as much to allow the uterus to contract and any internal bleeding to stop as anything else. I'd just lead walk her for at least a fortnight, then start building up to a few miles exercise without any hard running. Just my opinion.

thanks penny. the vet said she could only just make out the pups so she wasnt to far on and that she would expell some of the fluids but should naturally absorb most of the pheotus (spelling). she has started eating and drinking as normal and seems ok in herself apart from sleeping a little more. she has use of the garden as and when she wants it but i didnt want to do any walking/exercise for a few weeks anyway unless i had good advice to go ahead. so il leave her be for now and start gentle exercise in a week or two. thanks again mart
