As royston says!

never get angry and shout at it, just walk away....i'm struggling with this at the moment....i had my dog retreiving pigeons did it several days running 4th day didn't want to know would walk over to it then f**k off, i was fuming and then realised i was nearly screaming at him to do it so had to walk in before i throttled him! had been making it a game and always left him wanting more so for time being back to dummies in the daytime with treats and play

Darcy had a thread the other day that showed how to do it

and i like jackie drakefords book Understanding the working lurcher.... read it, very good

All good sound advice.

I would ad don't expect too much too soon. and forget what you read on here in terms of dogs doing xyz at 4 months.

Go at it slowly, you have that dog for years so don't worry.

Good luck to you and hope to see pics and read updates on here as you go along.

im no expert and have just got my first lurcher and she's now allmost 11 month old but one thing ill add is the early socialisation. i dont think it says enough about it in the dvd and thats were i messed up. she will accept slow moving trafic but doesnt like the fast stuff, even the noise sends her a bit scittish. another thing is the socialising with other dogs. it was the same dogs my pup saw all the time so didnt mind them but others, especially bigger than her she wasnt happy about. luckily her confidence seems to have gone up now and accepts them even went up to one of my mates labs today trying to get it to play. and be prepared to ask a fair few questions when things go wrong

yeah forgot about socialisation while writing my last post........very important take her everywhere town, buses trains, parks dog, policemen bikes everything you can think of the more she sees the more she will generalise..............where my dog came from was quite remote compared to where i live so he didn't see enough for life down here, at 2yrs hes just starting to not bother about every dog he sees he used to get over the top with every dog and i see maybe 20-30 ppl when out walking for 1 hour
