rob190364 2,594
I've just got a copy of that foxing with lurchers DVD with the collie crosses.....the DVD is alright, couple of bits of dodgy filming but other than that it was OK. One thing that did strike me though was on a couple of occassions when working with just one of the dogs he was filming it from a few hundred yards away. I've not done much with my lurcher yet but she's rarely more than 50 yards away from me, probably due to the fact we've only worked small woodlands and fields? Does anyone else have dogs that go so far away from you? Or is that just a trait of daytime fox dogs? At one point he was literally filming it from the other side of a big valley! Quote Link to post
123456 146
Think it depends on the ground, where I live is a lot of valleys but aslong as I'm able to see the dog I don't care how far away he is. If he doesa go out of my sight ill have him come back allowing me to cover some ground and hopefully see his next intended area. You say only 50 yards away, now don't get me wrong I think that shows you have great control but I also believes a dog needs to be able to hunt on himself, he could find a scent and the fox could be 200 yards away and moving. A lot of it in my expierience is knowing your dog, I know when mines on something and will allow him to go whatever distance that's required knowing hell turn around as soon as he needs to but if he's just generally mooching ill have him in close so as I can see what's happening Quote Link to post
