pot hunter 24
still a pup!> spend next 3 months "fetch" training with her then when she catches next rabbit whistle and run away from her. Quote Link to post
philkemp 50
My mates dog jst starting out this season does the same we the 1st few bunnies even tho she retreives balls/sticks anything else well, think its more to do we the pup bein excited than anything else would giv it a lot more time n maybe calm down we the dog till bout 10/12 month old at least Quote Link to post

philkemp 50
Jst make sure shes retreiving everything well, you could even try a rabbit skin dummy works well for me pal Quote Link to post
derbylad1 293
your right about waiting. take her out the field, go back to basics and find out what she is really into(what makes her tick). is it praise or is it food...whatever it takes. throw something that she likes to carry, then start with small throws. you ideally need to be in a place that she is contrained...an alley for example, so she has no way of going anywhere else but except back to you. then she has to come back to you...then this is where the thing that makes her tick comes in....and plenty of it. she is after all...just a pup. before getting her out on the lamp again, make sure she is ready mentally and physically. 7 months is very young(personally a bit too young) whats her breeding. Rabbiting man 1,192
My young lurcher taking three rabbits last night on the lamp he killed the first one then retrieved it the other two he retrieved straight away its a pup thing Quote Link to post
iceman001979 1,316
So what if she is she is killing rabbits and bringing them back to you at 7 months old don't see the problem. Why does the dog have to bring live to hand ???? its catching and bringing them back simple that is the point.Unless you are looking too eat them your self Quote Link to post
robert michem 314
has a norm, dogs with age when they start killing then ,tend too spit them out and will not pick them up again,,its the easy option for the dog,, whilst a rabbit his a live in the dogs mouth, out of confusion they tend to bring back, iff they put it down they no they are going to run off again,, Edited September 2, 2011 by robert michem Quote Link to post
nat 8
My dog does/ did this last year was his first season and only went lamping about 5 times and ferreting towards the back end if the season, when ferreting he held it in the net but lamping he only had abou. 4 but they were all brought back killed, his retriving was fine.
